: high frequencies are directional. they don't travel around hard objects very well.>

partially true, but directionality can hurt imaging as well. The diffusion of HF sound can help imaging by reducing the ear's tendency to be able to locate HF drivers in space. You don't want this. Granted, complete blockage of HF drivers will result in diminished output, but that is not the case for a leg, let's say. Bottom line is, every car is different, so try it out. My sister's Integra images like it had time alignment with the tweeters mounted a few inches away from the mid/bass drivers. Other cars may not show as good results. Also, the choice of tweeter as well as the level of passive shelving you choose has an effect on what you described. But what you described CAN be combatted with shelving and proper placement, while terrible imaging cannot (without artificial time alignment).

: last time I drive my car, I believe my legs were in the foot wells. if you place a tweeter anywhere NEAR the midbass, you will fire into your leg, under your leg but at your butt, or under your leg towards the floor.

that's what angle tweeter housings are for. You can practically get them to aim at your head, past your legs. it works VERY well in my experience, and in most others'.

: you cannot tell me that a tweeter in the LOWER door panel will sound better then a tweeter that can promote audio. You can always attentuate a tweeter with crossover.

Truth is, most tweeters are already passively attenuated to begin with. Just reduce or increase the amount of attenuation as desired. I don't disagree that direct-firing from high mounting points is deterimental to tonality (though it can be with certain German brands), but it *is* detrimental to imaging... and that is as important to me as tonality.

: I can't help you with eqqual length staging. Probably because it's the holy grail. And in cars, it CANNOT exist if you sit to one side.

But path length differences An be minimized. And near-midbass mounting locations are the next-best thing to kickpanels if you can't afford them.

Have you heard a car with such a setup yet? It's surprisingly effective, though it may initally seem counterintuitive.
